Today's leaders experiencing a well- rounded Liberal Education...

“University studies is such a broad degree that I can explore different avenues -- this gives me an insight into many possibilities for employment”
-- Angela, senior

“It is nice to be able to explore a variety of courses that count toward a liberal arts concentration.”
-- Morgan, '06 graduate
The University of Mary's Bachelor of University Studies is a good fit for students who:
- Are preparing for further work at the graduate level.
- Want to obtain a strong grounding in the liberal arts and sciences.
- Have multiple and diverse academic interests.
- Are preparing for an interdisciplinary career.
With the assistance of a faculty advisor, the university studies major develops a degree plan tailored to his or her needs. The student may wish to focus on courses relating to a specific area of concentration, or to focus on a general liberal arts grounding.
Mission
We provide an education grounded in the liberal arts and sciences that incorporates the Benedictine values as tools for the implementation of that education. Graduates in the Bachelor of University Studies program will have a broad and deep base of knowledge informing their servant-leadership.
Philosophy
In accordance with the Association of American Colleges and Universities' New Vision for Learning National Panel Report, we believe that a practical liberal education creates empowered, informed, and responsible citizens.
Outcomes
The Bachelor in University Studies degree prepares students to be:
- Empowered learners who have mastered intellectual and practical skills.
- Informed learners who understand the natural and social world and the basic forms of inquiry in those fields of study.
- Responsible learners, reflected in both personal and civic values.
